The safety of our patients and their families is an important part of the American Family Children's Hospital. The building's security systems were designed to provide and safe/secure environment for our patients while remaining user-friendly for family and friends.
Please recognize that the building's security plan is in place for a reason and your participation in the overall security of our patients is an important part of that plan. Finally, we ask that you always remain aware of your surroundings and that you take an active role in your own personal safety and that of our patients.
Primary family members are issued "access" cards upon the patient's admission to the American Family Children's Hospital. These cards, which are issued by the security department from its office on the first floor, are assigned in the patient's name and designated for use by primary family members.
Access cards allow the holder to enter areas that are otherwise inaccessible to the general public. Please use these cards as they were intended to be used and contact security immediately at (608) 890-5555if a card is lost. We also ask that upon discharge, you return the cards to your child's care provider.
We ask that you immediately contact any staff member or security at (608) 890-5555if you notice something or someone who is suspicious. When necessary, security personnel will respond and look into the matter.
If you have permission to stay in the hospital after hours, we ask that you:
- Properly display your after hours ID badge
- Do not wander throughout the hospital
- Respect patient care and restricted areas
- Remain quiet and respectful of others
When leaving the hospital, especially after hours, maintain awareness of your surroundings. Whenever possible, leave with another person and stay in well-lit areas. If you notice anything suspicious, please return to the hospital security office located on the first floor, right next to the public elevator lobby.
