Patient and Visitor Guide

Visiting Hours

Parents or legal guardians may be with their child at any time. For all other visitors, visiting hours are 7am-9pm. Parents, legal guardians, family members and visitors must stop at security in the main lobby for a prescreening process before going to a child's room. The hospital entrance closes at 9pm each night. After 9pm, we require that a security officer confirm all visitors (including parents) with the nursing unit on the designated floor. Also, all visitors after 9pm must wear an "Extended Hours Visitor" badge.

More about Visiting Hours

Parking

Visitor parking is available at hourly and daily rates on levels 1 and 2 of the parking ramp. Parking passes will be issued by the Parking Office to inpatients' primary visitors, allowing visitors to park for free during their stay. The Parking Office is located on Level E and is open Monday-Friday, 7:15am-12:30am, and Saturday and Sunday, 7:15am-11:30pm. All other patient visitors must pay for parking with cash or by credit card. Patients with outpatient appointments receive free parking. Simply present your parking stub/time ticket to the staff at the Guest Depot in the main lobby for validation from 7am-9pm. After hours, please go to the security office for parking validation. Valet parking is available for patient families who are bringing a child in for a same-day clinic, radiology or day treatment appointment or for a same-day surgery procedure.

Gift Shop

The American Family Children's Hospital Gift shop and Pharmacy is located in the main lobby. At Wisconsin Avenue Pharmacy and Gifts, you will find toys, stuffed animals, cards and a wide selection of gift items. The shop is open from 9am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday. For more information, call (608) 890-8398.

Gift Guidelines

Flowers and other delivered gifts are most welcome, but no rubber or latex balloons may be brought into the hospital because they present a choking hazard for children. Mylar (foil) balloons are allowed. Please note that some patients might not be able to have live plants or flowers in their rooms due to medical conditions.

Food Options

The Farmers' Market Café is located on the main floor of the American Family Children's Hospital and features custom-made sandwich, salad and beverage selections that are delicious and healthy. The café is open from 7am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Learn more about the Farmers' Market Café, including menus

Vending machines are located on the fourth and fifth levels, and more options are available at the adjacent University Hospital
